Adding Permissible Purpose for TU

Some customers are starting to get an error from TransUnion that states ‘Missing Permissible Purpose Code or End User’.

Follow these instructions to fix this error:

  1. In Easy Access, click on the File Menu > Setup Options > Bureau Setup > Trans Union (if running a multi-bureau version).
  2. Make sure at the top of the Bureau Setup it says you are in the ‘Default’ department.
  3. Select a Purpose from the pull-down menu in the Trans Union setup.
  4. Click OK to save the Setup Options.

If you still receive the same error from TransUnion, you most likely will have to set a Default ‘End User’ to be sent with each inquiry.  If so, follow these steps:

  1. In Easy Access, click on the File Menu > Setup Options > Bureau Setup > Trans Union (if running a multi-bureau version).
  2. Make sure at the top of the Bureau Setup it says you are in the ‘Default’ department.
  3. Click on the ‘Default Button’ on the bottom of the Bureau Setup.
  4. Fill in the End User Field with your company name and click OK.
  5. Click OK to save the setup options.  NOTE: If you have multiple departments set up in Easy Access, you will get a message ‘Would you like to make these changes in all of your Departments’.  If you get this message, say YES.

That should do it.  The software will now send the Purpose and End User information with each inquiry.
