Installing as a NT Service

This feature is only available in the Enterprise and Architect editions.

Easy Access installs a file into its program folder called EAServ.exe, allowing Easy Access to run as a Service. The service will only work if you have a Trial Version or an Enterprise Edition of Easy Access Online installed. The service is designed for use with Internet connectivity only.

NOTE: As of version 6.4.1.0, if you are installing an Enterprise or Architect Edition of Easy Access, the service will install with the software, although, you will have to manually start it until you change its start settings in the NT Service applet. If installing an older version or trial version follow the instructions below.

Installing the EAServ Service on older versions of EAOnline (older than 6.4.1.0)

You must have Easy Access completely setup before starting the Service.

You can install Easy Access as a Service on NT-based Operating Systems (Windows NT4.0, Windows 2000 and Windows XP, Windows 2003 and up).

To install the Easy Access service, follow these instructions. Most likely, you will need to be logged into Windows as an administrator.

  1. Open up a Command Prompt Window (on some systems, as administrator).
  2. If installed to the default installation location, type in “C:\Program Files (x86)\EasyAccess\EAServ.exe” /install. If you didn’t install the default folder, replace the above path with the path to the EAServ.exe file.

To uninstall the Easy Access service, follow these steps:

  1. First, open up a Command Prompt Window (on some systems, as administrator).
  2. Assuming you installed to the default installation location, type in “C:\Program Files (x86)\EasyAccess\EAServ.exe” /uninstall. If you didn’t install the default folder, replace the above path with the path to the EAServ.exe file.

Once the service has been installed, all of the HTTP, Import, and Export functions that EasyAccess.exe was previously handling will be handled by EAServ.exe.

In many cases, you will need to have the service start with a Windows account with administrator rights.  To do this:

  1. Find EAService in the NT Service applet.
  2. Right-click on EAService and choose properties.
  3. Click on the Log On Tab.
  4. Enter a Windows User account name and password with full access to the network and the Easy Access application folder.  (In many cases, use the same Windows username that you normally use when using the easyaccess.exe application. However, in some cases, you may need to use an administration Windows account.)
  5. Click OK to save the properties box.

If you have a one-user concurrent license installed, you will not start Easy Access while the Service is running.
