Using GrabIT

note This feature is only available in the Enterprise and Architect Editions.

GrabIT: While it really no longer really supported, GrabIT has been left in Easy Access mainly for backwards compatibility.

  • Click on the Tools Menu > Grabit! > Run GrabIt! to begin recording a GrabIt! macro. GrabIt! will disable your current Hotkeys while it records.
  • Start your application and position both windows so you can easily see both programs. GrabIt! will remain on top even while your application is the active window.

Follow these steps to create a GrabIT macro:

  1. Place your cursor into the First Field that has data that you want to import into Easy Access. You should place your cursor at the beginning of any data in your application’s data field box. GrabIt! will highlight and copy all data in this field. Make sure that the field has data in it.
  2. GrabIt! will highlight and copy all the data in the selected field and will ask you to verify that you have selected the correct text.
  3. Next, you will assign the data that you are copying to an Easy Access database field. All of the Easy Access database fields in this list are from the Inquiry Entry Form. GrabIt! will copy your selected data item and put that highlighted data into Easy Access. You can assign multiple data items to the same Easy Access field. Example: Firstname Middlename Lastname => Full Name. Use the drop down list to select the database field.
  4. Once you have assigned your data to a database field, GrabIt! will ask if you want to copy another field from your application.
  5. If you say yes, you must USE ONLY YOUR KEYBOARD to go to the next field you want to copy. This is necessary since GrabIt! records only keystrokes, not mouse movements. Repeat until you have all the data you need.
  6. When you have all the data you need, tell GrabIt! that you don’t want to copy another field and you will be asked to assign a hot key for this macro. Just press any key combination and it will appear in the Hot Key box. Try to select a combination that is not used in any other program you are currently running.
  7. GrabIt! will then test your new macro and display all the data it has captured from your application. Just switch back to your application and place your cursor into the first data field. Hit your hotkey combination and verify that GrabIt! has copied the correct data items.

Once you have completed creating your new macro, you can Edit your current macros or Exit GrabIt!.

Once you have recorded a macro, exit Easy Access and restart it before using your hotkey combination.

NOTE: GrabIt can be initiated on program launch as well by using the HK- parameter.
